Intensifying its online media blocking spree, the Ethiopian regime has blocked several Ethiopian websites, Facebook Pages and proxy sites. De Birhan’s second back up site launched over a month ago (www.debirhan.net) has also been blocked on 22 September 2012. Our former site (debirhan.com) has been blocked in Ethiopia since April, 2012. Another blog run by a group nine young Ethiopians http://zone9ethio.blogspot.com/ has also been blocked. We suggest our readers to subscribe via email to continue getting our posts.
- The new Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Dessalgne will fly to the New York, U.S.A. this week. According to sources the Prime Minister will be heading to attend the High-level Meeting of the 67th Session of the General Assembly on the Rule of Law at the National and International Levels which will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 24 September 2012. This is a session when Member States, non-governmental organizations and civil society are represented at the highest level, to discuss and agree a forward-looking agenda on strengthening the rule of law.
- Bereket Simon in China. Minister of Government Communication Office of Ethiopia, Bereket Simon is in China to work out and improve " exchanges on country governance and cadre training" with the Communist Party of China (CPC). Bereket said the EPRDF will learn from the CPC's experience and strengthen their cooperation on media, to promote development of the relationship between the two countries and two parties.
- Getachew Belay, chief of EFFORT and former Minister of
Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority, is in Florida. He is said to be in the U.S. for a while now. Getachew left for the U.S. with his wife and children as to what some say for "holiday". It is not clear when he will return back but his post has been vacant for a while now than it has usually been.
- Eritrean Embassies in Canada and Netherlands might be closed. The reports come after the Foreign Offices of the two countries respectively warned closure and questioned Eritrean envoys in relation to 2% taxtion on the Eritrean Diaspora.
