Yenesew Gebre (photo), the teacher who burnt himself in the southern Ethiopian town of Waka, southern Ethiopia. He is the first person in Ethiopia who used self-immolation as a Political Tool. It was reported that his self-immolation came after he said was subjected to constant abuse and injustice by Meles Zenawi’s regime. Bouazizi, a young Tunisian graduate who set himself on fire triggered the Tunisian revolution.
Yenesew was originally from Jimma who moved to Waka finding teaching job in the local school. He was known for his writing and reading skills.
