VIPs arrest continues : Andualem Arage and Journalist Eskinder Nega arrested

Sources from Addis Abeba informed this Blog that two prominent personalities in Ethiopia have become the victims of the recent arrest spree.Andualem Arage , Head of Public Relations Committee, at the rank of Vice Chair for Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ) and prominent journalist Eskinder Nega have been arrested by police in Addis Abeba. The charges have not been spelt out yet.They were reportedly taken from the Cafeteria they were chatting at.

Eskinder Nega was a publisher of the Amharic Newspapers Satenaw with his wife Serkalem Fasil a pulisher of Menelikand a free press journalist as well. Both Serkalem and Eskinder charged and Jailed for “treason, outrages against the Constitution and incitement to armed conspiracy” following the 2005 controversial election.

Amnesty International recognized them as prisoner of conscience for their struggle to bring freedom of speech and express.
