Senior figures absent in the Front's Congress election

In the ongoing Congress of member parties of the ruling, Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) some nine senior figures of the EPRDF's core Party, Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) including  Amb. Seyoum Mesfin, Amb. Berhane G/kirstos, Arkebe Equbay and Zeray Asgedom, have not been elected to the Central Committee of the Front. The Front has elected three newcomers to the Committee. Similarly, Oromo Peoples’ Democratic Organization (OPDO) new Central Committee did not have Addis Abeba's Mayor Kuma Demeksa, Speaker of Parliament Abadula Gemeda and Amb. Girma Biru in its list.

SEPDM

Likewise, the South Ethiopian Peoples’ Democratic Movement (SEPDM) Assembly on Wednesday elected Hailemariam Desalegn as its Chairperson and Shiferaw Shigute Deputy Chair. The Assembly also elected same day 15 Executive Committee members including nine EPRDF Central Committee members. Accordingly, Hailemariam Desalegn, Shiferaw Shigute, Redwan Hussien, Mekuria Haile, Siraj Fagessa, Dr. Shiferaw Teklemariam, Alemayehu Asefa, Dessie Dalkie and Tesfaye Beljigie were elected EPRDF Central Committee members. Teklewold Atnafu, Melese Alemu, Muferiyat Kamil, Tagesse Chafo, Debebe Abera and Sani Redi were elected as SEPDM Executive Committee members and this includes the EPRDF Central Committee members listed above. The Assembly concluded its meeting by nominating 250 members who would participate in the EPRDF Organizational Assembly to be held in Bahir Dar.

ANDM
The 10th conference of Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) during its session on Thursday elected Demeke Mekonnen and Gedu Andargachew chairman and deputy, respectively. Besides the chair and deputy, Addisu Legese, Bereket Simon, Ayalew Gobeze, Alemnew Mekonnen, Kassa Tekleberhan, Tefera Deribew, Binalf Andualem, Melaku Fanta, Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen, Getachew Ambaye and Ahmed Abitew were elected executive committee members of the Movement. The Movement also named a 65-member central committee.

TPLF
Similarly, Thursday’s session of the 11th conference of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) elected 45 central committee members. Abay Woldu and Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael were elected chair and deputy in that order.In addition to the chair and deputy, Dr. Tewodros Adhanom, Tewodros Hagos, Gebremeskel Tareke, Azeb Mesfin, Tirfu Kidanemariam, Beyene Mekru and Alem Gebrewahid were elected executive committee members of the Front.

OPDO
In a related development, the 7th conference of Oromo Peoples’ Democratic Organization (OPDO) same day elected Alemayehu Atomsa and Muktar Kedir chair and deputy, respectively. Besides the chair and deputy, Aster Mamo, Workineh Gebeyehu, Sufian Ahmed, Diriba Kuma, Abdulaziz Mohammed, Oumer Hussein and Abera Hailu were elected executive committee members of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). Besides the aforesaid seven, Bezu Wakbeka, Abdulkadir Hussein, Nure Kemer, Solomon Kuchu, Beker Shale and Eshetu Dese were elected OPDO executive committee members. The conference also elected 81 OPDO central committee members as well as seven members of the organization’s audit and inspection commission. It also named 250 members who would be representing the organization at the 9th Organizational Assembly of EPRDF.
