Ethiopia/Africa at risk of future food crisis

A new research done by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) on the impact of climate change on agriculture to date has stated that the world and Sub-Saharan Africa in particular are at risk of hunger and poverty. The specific projections for the year 2050 on crop yield declines,food price increases, and calorie availablity decreases due to climate change.

Fingerprints in Ethiopia being used for colony

The Revenue and Customs Authority (RCuA) has been collecting taxpayers' fingerprints since July 2009as part of the National Identification System (NIS) Project, financed by the World Bank, plans to collect fingerprints from over 1.6 million people in Addis Abeba.

Students, in all campuses of the Addis Abeba University, specifically under the government's cost sharing provision, are obliged to be registered under the new system as part of the government's monitoring mechanism to control possible oppositions.

Employees of government offices are also under the obligation.

EDITORS NOTE:Analists fear that this new project has a specific objective of trapping parts of the population that are assumed to be critical to the government and colonizing them both economically and securitywise.

Editors Note:Israel has been the dreamland of many felashas and Ethiopians. Ethiopians had much love and respect for Israel.However,Israel has been the opposite to the Ethiopians living in Jerusalem and surroundings.Many have been angered by the acts of Israeli schools,public services and certain officals.

What can we Ethiopians do to help our compatriots ''living'' in Israel?

Finally, just when thePetah Tikvaschool thought it was going to get away with the “crime” of racism, it got caught red-handed. The recent debacle that unfolded in front of the whole world is part of the bigger story of racism and isolation theEthiopian-Jewish community in Israel had faced for the longest.

One would hope that the active and systematic discrimination by Israel against the Ethiopian-Jewish community would be highlighted in light of the current blunt decision by the Petah Tikva school in choosing not to enroll young Ethiopian students. But I am afraid that’s not the case.

There has been countless stories chronicled about the suffering of the Ethiopian-Jewish community in Israel. And they have all, somehow, managed to fly under the radar. The fact is, this time it was different. A newspaper picked up the story, and then it was followed by the viral nature of the internet.

Some of my country folks would be quick to say the Ethiopian-Jewish community got what they’ve asked for. And that is quite unacceptable in my book. The reality is, this people no matter their choice to go back to Israel [what they consider to be their homeland] have a right. The individual-rightand birth-right that we’re all entitled to.

If there is a case of subjugation or oppression by Israel’s killer-and-rogue regime, then we must stand up in unison and be the voice for the Ethiopian-Jewish community. After all, no one else is doing it, and we shouldn’t expect anyone else to do it, but us (Ethiopians).

Finally, just today, the Ethiopian community in Israel took it upon themselves to protest and show their dismay with this current debacle. I welcome the news with immense jubilation.

The Israeli government should investigate deeper and dig out the grander issue of “systematic oppression” by Israel against the Ethiopian-Jewish community. If such investigation fails to get underway, we will consider any other effort to be a cosmetic fix.

The Petah Tikva school got everything it deserved, with hopefully much more to come than just the state’s decision to deny state funds. No person(s) in such a position as [a school authority], should ever be allowed to hold such a position. They should be investigated and be punished to the fullest extent.

In the end, there are no winners in this deplorable and shameful decision by the school not to enroll Ethiopian-Jewish students. There are, however, definite losers. And the main loser is Israel and its constituents. For a society that has witnessed, first hand, the ugly natures of racism, bigotry and subjugation . . . the last thing the world expects is for such people to re-live their nightmares, but only this time by subscribing to such a deplorable act themselves.

This is not an isolated incident that hardly deserves one’s [benefit of the doubt.
