Ethiopian Airforce Plane crashes in Mogadishu; four die

An Ethiopian Airforce plane has crashed in Mogadishu according to the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) and Twitter updates. AMISOM said on its Twitter update “ The Force Commander expresses his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of #Ethiopia following the loss of crew members”. Four members of the of the crew died immediately while the other two members have been rescued.

AlJezerra  reported that at least four people have been killed after a plane thought to be an African Union cargo flight crashlanded at Somalia’s Mogadishu airport, sources say. It said as to its sources, the plane belonged to the Ethiopian military and was carrying weapons and ammunition for for AMISOM, the peacekeeping mission in Somalia run by the African Union.

AMISOM said firefighters responded quickly and managed to save two crew members who are currently being treated at the AMISOM hospital.

ABDI GULED of the Associated Press said quoting an airport official “the plane involved was a cargo plane full of weapons from Ethiopia” .
