At least 3 killed in Gonder Protest today

At least three civilians have been killed today in Gonder, Northern Ethiopia when civilians clashed during the trail of Colonel Demeke Zewedu, the member of the Welkait Amhara Identity Committee. The number is expected to increase due to ongoing clashes around the suburbs of Gonder.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Court calling for his immediate release.

Gonder has been rocked in protests since mid July 2016 after the members of the Welkait Committee were arrested by government securities sparking regional protest, claimed the lives of at least 15 police officers and civilians.

Tomorrow anti government protests are called around the Oromia region and on Sunday in Bahir Dar, Amhara region’s capital.

Ethiopia has witnessed recurrent and strong anti government protests since November 2015. At least 500 protestor most in the Oromia region of Ethiopia have been killed by securities.

Youths also hoisted Ethiopia’s first flag Green, Yellow and Red flag removing the current government’s flag, which has an emblem in the middle of it. 13906901_1042681439133418_3324067729465985424_n

According to latest reports on netizens from Gonder, there is a heavy fighting between Ethiopian government soldiers and protesters near Azezo, North Western Gonder.
