Michele Obama was in Washington DC in September 2017 to “toast stylist Yene Damtew and her budding business, Aesthetics Salon in Arlington.” the Washington Post had reported.

A protegee of Johnny Wright, Damtew was a member of Mrs. O’s glam squad for years, working primarily with former first daughters Malia and Sasha and grandmother-in-chief Marian Robinson, it added.

Yene Damtew’s personal biography on her website reads:

Immediately following cosmetology school, the Ethiopian-American, La Palma, California native launched her career as the executive assistant to celebrity hairstylist Johnny Wright. Less than six months after her apprenticeship began, she packed her bags and moved to Washington, DC, to become one of the two personal hair stylist to the Obama Family.

Damtew worked closely with Michelle’s stylist Jonny Wright for many years and also styled the First Lady’s mother, Marian Robinson.

In addition to her time at the White House, Damtew has also styled some other Hollywood names such as Hugh Jackman, Tracee Ellis Ross, and K. Michelle.

More information on the salon can be found on the Aesthetics Salon website.
