Ethiopia is again engulfed in large scale anti-government protests taking place mainly across the Oromo region of Ethiopia. Some of the protests have been deadly and until today scores of protesters have been killed by government securities. The protesters’ slogan is “Down Down TPLF/Woyane” calling the government to step down.
Today’s protest in the Northern Shewa zone of the Oromo region of Ethiopia, 70 to 80 miles from the capital city Addis Abeba. Towns like Gebreguracha, Fiche and Selale saw violent protests. Government owned vehicles, and houses believed to be owned by people linked with the government were burned down by the protesters after government securities reportedly killed two civilians, ESAT Television reported.

The US Embassy in Addis Abeba in an official statement noted that they are ” saddened by reports that several recent protests ended in violence and deaths.”
Thousands of people were killed by government forces, detained, tortured and exiled by government forces since the protests began in 2015 due land related protests. Although the State of Emergency declared same month last year and was lifted in August 2017 slightly calmed the country, the colour of the protests has now changed to bringing down the government, protesters calling the TPLF/EPRDF led government to leave.
The humanitarian crisis in the Eastern parts of Ethiopian, the anti-government protests and the near political collapse of the regime call for an international intervention but since the Ethiopia regime is “no enemy regime” to the powerful international regimes, we maynot see that anytime soon, he added.
