We would have obviously seen so many shocking and sad images and realities in Ethiopia. But this one is so shocking and disturbing since perhaps there are few pictures capturing such a scene or as an Ethiopian Diaspora, it has been a while since we saw such a picture.
From the photograph posted by an Ethiopian netizen based Natnael Mokonnen on Facebook, the young boy appears to sleep next to, what looks like a sleeping mother with an infant, and begs for coins while doing his homework. It is also more disturbing that the student is still clad with his school uniform. He is not obviously the only case, there are hundreds if not more students, who survive begging with their parents.
The incumbents in Ethiopia claim to have become the leading economy in East Africa and many millionaires have been created. This is the reality that our governments, the pedestrians and our own eyes cannot see.
