A month after Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalgen and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyata agreed to tame cross-border conflict and enhance the economic development of the border towns with an investment agreement of $200 million, Kenyan media have reported today that Ethiopian militiamen have killed a Kenyan policeman on Saturday 9-1-2016.
The media outlets refereed to the armed Ethiopians as “bandits”. Several groups opposing the Ethiopian government are based in the border towns. Similarily, conflicts over land, cattle and water has been commonly occurring.

A Kenya Police Reserve (KPR) officer was killed in Marsabit County on Saturday while escorting a lorry.
Acting County Police Commander Mark Wanjala said the officer was escorting the lorry from Illiret when they were stopped by suspected Ethiopian bandits and were sprayed with bullets when they failed to stop. The incident happened at Karare as the lorry headed to Loiyangalani and the dead officer was identified as Abdi Edin. The police boss said patrols had been intensified in the area after the incident.
